If you breed dogs exclusively and the daily work of your program is reproductive management on your phone, Dog Breeder Pro does that job very well.
Breed Ledger is a different shape of product. It covers dogs, but it also covers reptiles, cats, livestock, and exotics on one platform. It ships a full public kennel website synced to your records, not just a profile page. It lists you in a built-in breeder directory so buyers find you on Google. It supports cross-kennel pedigree linking with an approval workflow so lineage stays verified across breeders. It reads Embark health-test PDFs and publishes the results with the lab named.
If you breed only dogs, and progesterone timing and COI math are the center of your workflow, Dog Breeder Pro is a strong pick. If species breadth, a real website, or buyers finding you at all matter to you, keep reading.

That was wrong, and it is corrected here: they publish one plan, Premium, at $14.99 USD a month, or $149.99 a year with two months free. There is no free tier, only a 30-day free trial with no card required.
What Dog Breeder Pro actually is
Dog Breeder Pro is a records and reproductive-management app for dog breeders, trusted by breeders in 35-plus countries. You log heats, run progesterone timing, track pregnancies, forecast coat color, build pedigrees with inbreeding math, store health and DNA results, generate contracts with e-signing, run puppy applications and a waitlist, and track finances. It runs on native iOS and Android apps, which is the right call for work you do in the whelping room with a phone in one hand.
That focus is the product's strength. It does dog reproduction deeply and it does it on mobile. A separate Cat Breeder Pro exists for cats, which tells you the design philosophy: one tight app per species rather than one platform across many.
Where Dog Breeder Pro wins
Be honest about this. If your program lives in dog reproduction, Dog Breeder Pro has tooling Breed Ledger does not. Progesterone logging and heat-cycle timing are first-class there and absent in Breed Ledger today. Native mobile apps beat a responsive website when you are standing in a kennel run logging a weight. And a dogs-only product carries none of the multi-species abstraction that a platform like Breed Ledger has to.
Their pedigree math is the clearest example, and it is deeper than Breed Ledger's. Their published inbreeding analysis runs Wright's Coefficient of Inbreeding across 10 generations, Ancestor Loss Coefficient (they label it ALC/AVK) at both 5 and 10 generations, a Pedigree Completeness Index computed as a harmonic mean so an imbalanced pedigree cannot hide behind a flattering average, effective ancestors, COI contributors, and COI by generation. On top of that sit a progeny analysis report, a sibling analysis report, and an ancestor analysis report ranked by percentage of blood. Breed Ledger renders 5+ generation trees and cross-kennel links; it does not compute any of those coefficients today. If you make mating decisions off COI and ALC, that gap is the whole decision and you should pick Dog Breeder Pro.
If those things describe your daily work, that is a real reason to pick Dog Breeder Pro, and I would rather you hear it from me than find out later.
Public dog pages nobody can search for
Dog Breeder Pro ships public dog pages and public pedigree pages, and their pedigree page is straight about what those are for: a permanent link you can send to a co-owner or to a stud owner evaluating your dam's lines. Sharing, not discovery.
You can check the discovery half yourself in about a minute. Open www.dogbreederpro.com/sitemap.xml, the address their own robots.txt declares. Use the www one: the bare dogbreederpro.com is their app host rather than their marketing site, and it has no sitemap to serve. On 2026-08-13 it holds 88 URLs, and all 88 are marketing pages, the same 11 (home, features, pricing, pedigrees, inbreeding analysis, coat color forecast, about, contact, signup, terms, privacy) repeated across 8 language versions. Not one dog page. Not one pedigree page. There is also no breeder directory on the site to browse into. So a buyer who does not already have your link has no path to your dogs.
Breed Ledger inverts that. Your kennel gets its own subdomain with its own robots.txt and its own sitemap.xml, and every animal you mark public is written into that sitemap so search engines can crawl it. Buyers who have never heard of your kennel arrive through the Find a Breeder directory at breedledger.co/breeders, which narrows by species, breed, state, and city. Records that only you and people you have already emailed can see are doing half the job your program needs them to do.
Health testing: a typed record versus a parsed result
Dog Breeder Pro stores genetic and DNA test results. That is listed on their features page under dog and litter records, and for your own files it works fine.
What their site does not name, on any page I read on 2026-08-13, is a testing lab. Not Embark, not any other. Nothing that reads the result document a lab issues, nothing that normalizes clear, carrier, at risk, and affected into one vocabulary, and nothing on the public dog page that tells a buyer where a result came from. The record is whatever was typed in, and a buyer is asked to take it on trust.
Breed Ledger reads Embark directly. Upload the panel PDF Embark sent you, and Breed Ledger detects the lab, pulls out each disease and its gene, normalizes the status, and publishes the results on that animal's public page with the lab named underneath. The honest limits: Embark is the only lab accepted today, so a panel from any other lab comes back with an unsupported-lab message, and Breed Ledger reads what the lab issued rather than phoning the lab to confirm the document. Naming the source is still a long way from a free-text field.
Where Breed Ledger wins
Breed Ledger is built to be your public front door, not just your back office. Your animals, pedigrees, genetics, and a full kennel website live in one system, so when you mark an animal available or announce a litter, your public site updates. Buyers land on your own domain with your own brand, and the built-in directory helps them find you on Google in the first place.
It also goes wider. One platform covers dogs plus reptiles, cats, livestock, and exotics, with allele-based genetics rather than dog-coat-color forecasting alone. Cross-kennel pedigree links let two breeders verify shared lineage with an approval step. Pricing starts free for your first 10 animals, so you can put your real dogs in and see the site it builds before you decide anything.
Who should pick which
Pick Dog Breeder Pro if you breed only dogs, you want native mobile apps, and progesterone timing or COI and ALC math sit at the center of your program. At $14.99 a month it is the cheaper of the two, and for that work it is the better-equipped of the two.
Pick Breed Ledger if you need buyers to find your kennel without you sending them a link, if you want lab-parsed health results on the pages those buyers read, or if you breed more than one species or plan to.
You do not have to choose forever. Plenty of dog breeders keep a reproductive app for the whelping room and run Breed Ledger as the public program buyers actually see. Treat them as complementary if that fits your setup.
